UK alum comes to rescue in airplane emergency

Out of the Big Blue

UK alum and UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital neurosciences ICU nurse Sarah Buschmann ’07 AS was called into duty unexpectedly last month … thousands of feet in the sky.

Buschmann was on a flight to Las Vegas, Nevada, to meet a few friends to celebrate her birthday, when about 20 minutes into the flight, a medical emergency occurred and Buschmann stood up to volunteer her services.

Bill Schutters, 63, of Richmond, was also on that flight, and was struggling to maintain consciousness, amongst many other serious signs that something was wrong. Buschmann stepped in, took control of the situation and helped Schutters make it through the trip and back on the ground safely.

Yesterday, Schutters, in better health and higher spirits, made a surprise trip to the hospital to thank Buschmann for her heroic actions. Watch the video above to learn more, courtesy of UK Public Relations & Marketing.
